Pediatric Case of Ludwig’s Angina (LA), Pakistan by Dr. Rafia Jabbar in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Pediatric Case of Ludwig’s Angina (LA), Pakistan by Dr. Rafia Jabbar in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Ludwig’s Angina (LA) is a severe form of infection which spread rapidly, effecting submandibular, sub lingual and sub maxillary spaces resulting state of emergency. We report a case of Ludwig’s angina in a 12-month-old female with a literature review and presentation, etiology, management, and potential complications of this in pediatric cases. Introduction Ludwig’s angina is a potentially life-threatening cellulitis of floor of mouth and tongue which rapidly progresses and becomes hard and inflexible. Ludwig’s angina, is named after German physician Wilhelm Fredrick von Ludwig who first described this in 1836. Due to the possible complications associated with Ludwig’s angina immediate identification and management is required.  ( 1 ) Case Report We report a case of a previously healthy well-nourished and vaccinated 12-month-old fema...

Complete Penoscrotal Transposition With Multiple Congenital Malformations by Jafari B. Lutavi in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Complete Penoscrotal Transposition With Multiple Congenital Malformations by Jafari B. Lutavi in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences SUMMARY Penoscrotal transposition (PST) is an extremely rare congenital anomaly of the external genitalia, characterized by malposition of the penis in relation to the scrotum. PST can be either complete or incomplete according to the positional exchanges between the penis and scrotum and both forms of PST are generally linked with hypospadias. Incomplete transposition is the common form of this entity and the penis lies in the middle of the scrotum, but complete transposition, the scrotum almost entirely covers the penis, which emerges from the perineum. Both forms are most often associated with a wide variety of other anomalies. We describe a case of a newborn with complete PST, with other associated malformations. BACKGROUND Penoscrotal transposition (PST) is a rare anomaly of the external genitalia, characterized by m...

POFF SHOOTS OF PrEP ( Pre Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV) Clinics by Saraswathi Lakkasani MD in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

POFF SHOOTS OF PrEP ( Pre Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV) Clinics by Saraswathi Lakkasani MD in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Introduction HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP), is use of antiretroviral medications to prevent acquisition of HIV infection, in a HIV negative person who has on going risk of acquiring HIV. This strategy has proven effective in several recently published reports. The regimen if used optimally has HIV reduction record of 99%. However, there are several positive unforeseen benefits in this strategy. In this observational study we are presenting some additional benefits we observed in our Prep Clinic. We are reporting the findings of our on-going PrEP Clinic for your perusal. Saint Michaels Medical Center is a 150 to 200 bedded community hospital, at Newark, New Jersey. We follow more than 200 PrEP clients in our Prep Clinic. We follow the state mandated protocol for induction and follow up. Observation Results So far there i...

Primary dural-based parafalcine diffuse large b-cell lymphoma mimicking meningioma by Amr El Mohamad in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Primary dural-based parafalcine diffuse large b-cell lymphoma mimicking meningioma by Amr El Mohamad in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Background:  Primary dural-based diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is very rare. Only few cases were reported in the literature. Case presentation:  Herein, we present a case of an immunocompetent patient with primary dural-based diffuse large B-cell lymphomas mimicking meningioma associated with ghost tumor phenomenon without any evidence of a systemic lymphoma. Conclusion:  Primary central nervous system lymphomas are rare. Clinicians should always consider this lesion as a differential diagnosis if radiological findings are not indicative of typical one meningiomas. Key words:  Dural-based tumor, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, ghost tumor, MATRIX regimen, central nervous system. Introduction Primary central nervous system lymphomas (CNSLs) (PCNSLs) are rare and account for 2%–5% of all bra...

Case Study: Trikafta and severe symptomatic hypoglycemia: cause or coincidence? by Samuel Kunz, MD in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Case Study: Trikafta and severe symptomatic hypoglycemia: cause or coincidence? by Samuel Kunz, MD in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Background  Trikafta (Ivacaftor / Elexacaftor / Tezacaftor) is a new combined CFTR modulator and potentiator for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF), approved by Swissmedic since December 2020. It has shown to improve lung function in CFpatients. Trikafta also influences pancreatic function and glucose homeostasis, whereby hypoglycemic episodes have been described. The underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Case report  We present a 16-year-old adolescent with CF with a first tonic-clonic seizure while being hypoglycemic approximately two weeks after therapy-onset with Trikafta. Diagnostic work-up found no other underlying cause for the seizureepisode. Discussion  Literature shows a complex influence of pancreatic CFTR channels on glucose homeostasis. CFTR channels have an import...

Olive Plant (Olea europaea L.) Compounds for Human Nutrition and Health by Muhammad Arshad Ullah in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract OBJECTIVE:  This cancer not only causes physical, mental, economic, and social problems for the sufferer, but it also causes sexual problems. This problem is ignored in our society since it is seen as a taboo in our culture, and it is deemed unacceptable. Sexual problems caused by chemotherapy treatment are frequently ignored by both nurses and patients. METHOD:  A questionnaire form was developed based on quantitative data analysis to analyze the educational requirement of the staff. This tool aims to determine the level of staff understanding of the relevance of sexual concerns that patients experience during chemotherapy treatment. My preceptor checked the questionnaire and consent form and then I share the link with the staff. The survey's target sample size was 15 daycare oncology registered...
