Counterstrain Manual Therapy Reduces Muscle Spasticity and Neuropathic Pain in Individual with Chronic Spinal Cord Injury: Case Report by David R. Dolbow in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences ABSTRACT Introduction: Muscle spasticity and neuropathic pain are common comorbidities after spinal cord injury (SCI) that can lead to further disability and the reduction in quality of life. Pharmacologic treatments are used as a standard of care for muscle spasticity and neuropathic pain. A possible adjunct therapy is osteopathic manual manipulation therapy. Case Report: In this case report counterstrain manual therapy was provided as a novel approach to help provide additional temporary relief of muscle spasticity and neuropathic pain. The 60-year-old African American patient with a C5 motor complete SCI completed six sessions over six months as an adjunct treatment to the standard pharmacologic care of Baclofen and Neurontin. Counterstrain manual therapy wa...

Tracking the Recovery of a Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Patient utilizing a 60-s Combined Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Psychomotor Testing Approach: A Case Study by Dr. Cory M. Smith in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Tracking the Recovery of a Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Patient utilizing a 60-s Combined Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Psychomotor Testing Approach: A Case Study by Dr. Cory M. Smith in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Identifying and tracking the recovery of patients with mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI) has remained elusive due to the lack of non-invasive, objective neuroimaging techniques. The purpose of this case study was to provide a proof of concept for performing a combined functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and 60-s psychomotor vigilance testing (60-s PVT) that can identify and track the recovery of a patient with a mTBI. The patient was a 19-year-old female acrobatics and tumbling athlete who was kicked in the left temple by a teammate. Video footage of the injury was utilized to determine the region of impact and weekly fNIRS and 60-s PVT assessments were performed throughout the 10 weeks of recovery. T...

Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (Wegener’s granulomatosis) manifesting with Cranial Nerve Palsies and Pachymeningitis: A Case report by Christian Matta in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract We present a case of a 78-year-old male patient diagnosed with pachymeningitis secondary to Wegener's granulomatosis (WG), also known as granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), associated with p-ANCA positivity. This case report aims to highlight the clinical presentation and diagnosis, of pachymeningitis in WG and provide a review of the literature on this manifestation. Introduction: Wegener's granulomatosis (WG) is a systemic small-vessel vasculitis characterized by necrotizing granulomatous inflammation, primarily affecting the upper and lower respiratory tracts and kidneys. (1) Central nervous system (CNS) involvement is uncommon, occurring in approximately 2-8% of cases, with the most common manifestation being peripheral neuropathy. Howeve...

Parietal Endometriosis in Abdominal Wall: Report of Eight Cases by Aymen laaliaoui in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences   Abstract Parietal endometriosis is a rare clinical entity, occurring after gynecological, obstetrical or abdominal surgery. Sometimes it is primitive. The etiopathogeny remains unclear.  Material and method: We report eight cases ofabdominal parietal endometriosis occurring in seven cases on laparotomy scars and in one case in a primitive way.  Discussion and Conclusion:  Clinical features include swelling and pain that is rhythmic with the menstrual cycle, but this picture is rarely complete. Medical imaging is of little assistance. Only histological examination of thesurgical specimen will confirm the diagnosis. Surgical treatment is based on the complete removal of the lesions must be large enough to avoid any recurrence.  Introduction: External endometriosis is an ectopic localization oftissues whose ...

The frequency and management of CBD stones in a Pediatric Series by Dr.Anies Mahomed in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

The frequency and management of CBD stones in a Pediatric Series by Dr.Anies Mahomed in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Background:  The prevalence of cholelithiasis in children is rare and a fraction of these will also have concomitant choledocholithiasis. Detection and expeditious management of common bile duct (CBD) stones is critical to avoiding complications, some of which are potentially life threatening. Of concern are, obstructive jaundice, recurrent pancreatitis and ascending cholangitis. The management options for CBD stone are multiple and extraction can be achieved via, open choledochotomy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERCP) with sphincterotomy, choledochoscopy and percutaneously via transhepatic cholangiography (PTC). Aim:  To evaluate the epidemiology, associated comorbidity and management of CBD stones in children. To focus on the effectiveness of ERCP with sphincterotomy, in this context, and, the timing of cholecy...
